The story follows , an exceptionally dedicated and somewhat eccentric private bodyguard. Out of deep gratitude to a wealthy nobleman, Sartaj Rana (Raj Babbar) , who once saved his family, Lovely takes on the task of protecting Sartaj's daughter, Divya (Kareena Kapoor) , from a looming threat.
Lovely's over-protective nature becomes a nuisance for Divya, who wants to live a normal college life. To distract him, she starts hounding him with anonymous phone calls under the persona of "Chhaya," claiming to be a secret admirer. The plan backfires when Lovely truly falls for Chhaya, and Divya, in turn, finds herself falling for her own protector.
